Having just entered my sixth decade, I've decided to torture myself in this event in the memory of two great guys who departed too early, Martin Macari and Adrian Glass, one of my best pals and my father-in-law. Both were amazing sportsmen who lived life to the full. I am splitting the fundraising between Sporting Start, the charity set up in Martin's name which supports deprived children in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and Marie Curie, whose Edinburgh hospice looked after both of them in their last days. The pain of 14.3 miles and 2,200 feet of climbing will be worth it for these two great causes.
