August 2020 I will be cycling on the road by myself and completing a 120+ mile pre planned route in Essex.
Last year I cycled in the Prudential Ride London event which is 100 miles on closed roads through London. However this year I wanted to kick it up a gear and do something for a good, local organisation that is true to who I am and what I believe in.
I am doing this purely for the animals. To raise money and support my local animal sanctuary, Tower Hill Stables Sanctuary. Tower Hill is based in Asheldham in Essex and is home to over 600 farm animals that have been saved from the meat and dairy industry.
The Sanctuary opened in 1993 and was founded by Fiona Oakes who is a big inspiration for this ride. I volunteer at the weekends for Tower Hill and seeing the work that Martin and Fiona put in to maintain the sanctuary is honestly astounding!
The sanctuary is home to over 600 animals which includes Pigs, Cows, Goats, Sheep, Chickens, Turkeys and Horses. As you can imagine, feeding this many animals doesn't come cheap and costs over ten thousand a month. This is why we need any money you can offer to help accommodate these lovely beings.
I am aiming to spread the vegan message and save innocent, intelligent and compassionate animals from the hidden cruelty that is the meat and dairy industry. As well as this I would love to raise as much as possible to help support the costs of this amazing sanctuary.
Fiona Oakes and her partner Martin provide care and a home for life to around 600 rescued animals -
both domestic and ex-farm - at several sites in Essex. Fiona has to find between twelve and fifteen thousand pounds a month to feed the animals. The Sanctuary is not
what Fiona does for a living, she is a retained Fire-Fighter and her partner
Martin is retired from the Financial Services industry. No income or expenses are deducted from donations made
to the sanctuary to ensure that 100% of every pound received goes towards the
feed costs. There are no staff as Fiona & Martin do all the work alone
with a small team of volunteers.
