About the good cause

Bedford Hospitals Charity

The Bedford Hospitals Charity was founded in 1988 to improve the equipment and facilities for patients and staff at Bedford Hospitals. It is run entirely by volunteers thus keeping the cost of running it to an absolute minimum. The charity has raised well over £9½ million since it was founded, notably £2½ million to establish the Primrose Cancer Unit. Recently it has raised £400,000 for endoscopy equipment, £200,000 for the maternity unit, £600,000 for a CT scanner with a gamma camera and £750,000 to develop and improve cancer services throughout the hospital. It has also recently agreed to fund £1 million for a new MRI scanner. The current appeal is to raise £50,000 to replace three vehicles used by the charity's Primrose Car Service to take radiotherapy patients for treatment at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
